I found these two tracks on my hard drive today and decided to put them up here, at least for a while.
The first one was recorded in May 2020 to cure my blues in the first corona lockdown. When I learned the piano as a teenager I played many of Chick Corea's tunes, the children's songs and also some more complicated ones...mostly when I was alone at home and not worrying about anyone hearing me play. The songs helped me a lot to get deeper into improvisation and my imagination. Also, they opened the path for me for what I would call "depth" in music, the connection to something "universal" outside of yourself, that's still deep down inside of you. Some of you might know what I mean. One year later, Chick Corea died and I thought of putting out the track as a tribute, but I was too shy. You can hear everything in this track, including my smacking. Sorry! But this was a one take live recording, so I think it's okay.
The second track is a cover of Joni Mitchell's "The Dawntreader", a song of hers that I discovered kind of late, maybe in 2017. Normally I don't dare to touch her material because it feels like noone can sing and play it like she does. But I connected to this song via the guitar pattern and arranged it for a live show with the aim to stretch it as much as possible to put the emphasis on the dark-fairy-tale-like story and to have the time to slowly develop the sound. Patrick Dadaczynski recorded this one with me at the beginning of 2018. This is the first rough mix we did and as I can't find the original recording anymore, this is what it is.
